Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Oil

I was in a rut with my skincare routine for a few weeks in the summer. I used whatever I could find on my bathroom counter and stopped paying attention to what worked and what didn’t. That left my skin feeling rough and bumpy, and I knew I needed something powerful to fix the result of my negligence.

This is when I decided to try Sunday Riley’s Power Couple Duo: Total Transformation Kit. It features two star products from the brand – Luna Sleeping Oil and Good Genes Lactic Acid Treatment. I put off trying this brand so many times because of the hefty price tags. For full-size products with 1 oz, Luna and Good Genes retail for $131 and $147 respectively. But in this duo, you’ll get 0.5 oz of each product for a total $102 only! Not to mention that these are “less is more” products – a little goes a long way. I’ve used both of them consistently for two months and the bottles are still 60% full. In this review, I will focus on my experience using the Luna Sleeping Oil.

Luna is a sleeping oil packed with retinoids and essential oils that claims to treat fine lines, radiance, smoothness and luminosity. It says on the box to apply as much product as needed to clean skin at night, and massage the product into the skin until the blue colour disappears. I use about 3-4 drops as the final step of my night time routine and it takes me about a minute or two minutes to massage it into my skin to a point where it no longer looks blue or feels extremely oily. This is an indicator that the product is sinking into the skin, but since it’s a thicker oil, it won’t be fully absorbed before you head to bed. One thing that I really dislike is the scent. Even after using the product for 2 months, I still get bothered by the distinctive smell every time I use it. But because of how amazing the product actually works on my skin, the scent isn’t a deal breaker for me.

I actually saw a noticeable difference just after the first night I used it. My skin was soft and plump when I woke up. The bumps I had didn’t disappear overnight, but my overall skin texture was already smoother. This is why I decided to keep using it even though my nose told me no. In another few days, the little bumps slowly went away, and my skin felt much smoother overall. I’ve used retinoid products before so I knew it was an ingredient that worked well with my skin, but I was still impressed by the results from using it for such a short period of time. The redness and sensitivity I was had also calmed down, which is surprising since this ingredient is known to cause sensitivity by exfoliating your skin. Blue Tansy gave the product that awful scent I hate, but I believe it’s also this particular ingredient that helps soothe the skin. It’s been around 2 months since I first started using Luna and I’ve definitely seen an overall improvement in my skin texture and evenness. I also love that my foundation glides on much smoother and that my pores appear smaller. I will definitely repurchase when I run out of this product, but that shouldn’t happen until quite a while since I’m barely making a dent!

Have you tried this product? Does it work well on your skin and what do you think of the scent? Let me know!
