REVIEW | *Tangle Teezer – The Ultimate Professional Finishing Hairbrush

The first brush I bought from Tangle Teezer was the Compact Styler. I have been loving it for over 4 years so I have recently replaced it with a new one that has adorable flamingos on it. And one of the first reviews I’ve done on my blog was actually with Tangle Teezer as well, so you already know that I’m a huge fan of the brand! When I saw that they came out with another brush, I couldn’t wait to try it out. Just look at it – how cute is it?

The first thing I noticed about the Ultimate brush was that it looks a lot like the Original brush with an added handle. Which made me a little bit skeptical. Wouldn’t they just do the same thing? But when I used one brush right after the other, they actually felt very different, which I will get into in a bit. But back to the handle – ergonomically, with the handle, I find that it’s comparatively easier to hold onto and it gives me better control. Since I have the Compact Styler, I would probably never have to bring this brush around. But just a heads up, the handle is quite clunky so it will take up quite a bit of extra space.

You may ask why Tangle Teezer released yet another brush that seem quite similar to what they already have in their repertoire. The answer is – the Ultimate brush was created specifically for dry styling and it’s the third step in Tangle Teezer’s Three Step Process:

Step 1: Detangle with your Original or Compact Tangle Teezer to get all the knots out
Step 2: Blow Out Hair with Tangle Teezer’s Blow Styling Brush to get big bouncy locks
Step 3: Finish your look with the Ultimate to perfect your hairstyle

Like all Tangle Teezer brushes, it detangles like a dream without causing any tension while creating high shine. But with the longer teeth, it’s amazing for back-brushing at the crown to create more volume or to smooth your hair out, whether you have it  down or up in a pony tail. I also find that it just performs better at styling in comparison to the Original. I love using the Original to detangle, but when it comes to styling, it takes much longer. Which is why I like to keep the Ultimate brush at my vanity to style my hair every morning, and have my Original brush in my bathroom to get all tangles out before and after I wash my hair. And of course, one of the most amazing things about Tangle Teezer brushes is that they are just so easy to clean.

If you don’t already own any Tangle Teezer brushes and you can only choose one, I would recommend the Ultimate. I think it’s the most well-rounded one since it detangles as styles well, and it’s comfortable to use. (The Compact Styler would be my second choice because it’s exactly the same thing as the Original, just slightly smaller and it’s so easy to just toss it into your bag!)
