Givenchy Beauty Noir Interdit Mascara

A Givenchy mascara! Where should I even start? As much as I enjoy the finer things in life, for something that you’re supposed to dispose every 3 months, I’m all about drugstore brands. But Givenchy’s Noir Interdit Mascara is not like anything else I’ve tried in the past. Because it comes with a revolutionary wand that can bend to a 90 degree angle for maximum ease of application.

As we all know, when it comes to high-end makeup, the quality is usually there. And Noir Interdit doesn’t disappoint in that respect – from the luxurious packaging to the actual product itself, I love almost everything about it! It has a gorgeous ribbon-like pattern across the bottle and it looks absolutely stunning on my vanity. The first time I opened it, I immediately noticed a whiff of fresh floral. Normally, I’m not a fan of scented products for the eyes but since it doesn’t linger, I don’t really mind it. (And it actually smells really lovely!)

Let’s move onto the fun part – the bendable wand. Not gonna lie, it took some practice to master it. And I may or may not have ruined my foundation twice because I accidentally touched my face with the wand… But once you get the hang of it, it actually does feel really easy to apply! However, it’s not any easier than traditional mascaras and I don’t think this feature alone is compelling enough for me to fall in love with this mascara just yet.

My absolute favourite part of the mascara is actually the comb-shaped brush. It has very stiff and short bristles, and a lot of it – almost reminds me of a mini Tangle Teezer. Together with the bendable wand, I find it to be extremely effective at catching all my lashes and coating them evenly. Yup, even the shortest, tiniest lashes that you didn’t even know you had!

My lashes naturally point downwards, so I usually wear waterproof formulas to keep my curls up all day. With that said, this mascara is on the thinner and drier side. So even though it doesn’t come in a waterproof version, it still holds my curls fairly well. Its ability to hold curls as a non-waterproof mascara is comparable to my other favourite non-waterproof mascara, Too Faced’s Better Than Sex. But Noir Interdit has a very different formula – it’s now my favourite mascara for that lengthened, separated, fluffy look. And when paired with individual lashes, it really creates a lash extension effect because of how natural and non-clumpy the formula is. However, it’s definitely not so great at building volume. So if you’re into that dramatic, thick mascara effect, this isn’t for you.

The Givenchy Noir Interdit is a beautiful mascara. It is a little bit pricy ($38), but it looks and feels really luxurious. The formula is unique and I absolutely love the brush for that naturally lengthened and separated look. The bendable wand is innovative and I do like the option of adjusting the angle of the wand to make application easier. But I have to complain about one thing – it doesn’t come in a waterproof formula. This probably isn’t a deal-breaker for most people. But as someone with lashes that point downwards, I will always prefer waterproof mascaras to keep my curls up and perky. So Givenchy Beauty, if you’re reading this, please release a waterproof formula and I’ll be sure to repurchase in the future.

    1. Thank you so much. It was a coincidence that I came across one page on the Porter Magazine that mentions Givenchy in an article about Audrey Hepburn, so I thought It’d be fitting so use it as a prop!

  1. NOOO, I was so excited but then I saw it is not waterproof.Almost unthinkable. The whole concept totally amazing, but yes you are right, not being waterproof is a total dealbreaker for me – sad face

  2. I love mascaras that smell nice! And I wouldn’t expect anything less from a brand like Givenchy haha. Very interested in seeing this product in person… Gotta make my way to Sephora this weekend!

    1. Is scented mascara a thing? I usually get my mascaras from the drugstore and they’re either unscented or have that makeup-y scent. Let me know if you check it out in stores 🙂

  3. I’ve been seeing this mascara everywhere and I was so intrigued! The wand is really quite cool but I agree that it’s not something that would convince me to buy it. I tend to prefer natural bristle brushes and lots of volume but it sounds lovely!

    1. I love how innovative the wand is but it definitely isn’t something that would be a deciding factor for me to buy it! Thank you for reading Courtney x
